On Koh Lanta just about everyone stays in bungalows. The bungalows
range from basic bamboo huts to real luxury houses. However, you will not
find the large holiday complexes that have become a common sight in many
tourist areas. |
The Koh Lanta planners have
learned from the developments
in
other areas and are trying hard
to keep the island genuine. It is
not yet
permitted to build high
rise buildings, consequently most
resort are small or
medium sized
family
run businesses. As far as
we
know there are no resorts that
offer half or full board and believe
us when you get to Koh Lanta
you will want to be able to choose |

amongst the islands many restaurants. More and more resorts have
however, started to include breakfast in their bungalow prices even
though the Thai version of American Breakfast is frequently a matter
of opinion.
There are many places to stay and the prices vary greatly according to
standard and season. During the low season one can find a basic, clean
bungalow with a toilet and shower for 250 bht, the same bungalow is likely
to cost you 700 bht or more in peak season. If you want air condition and
hot water you should be prepared to pay at least 1500 bht. Generally the
prices for pre bookings are a bit lower than the “walk in prices” but to be
honest we must say that some resorts will at times lower their prices for
“walk ins” if they have a free bungalow. The resorts we choose to work with
have promised us to keep their prices and not have any “special offers”
detrimental to the guests who have booked their bungalows in advance. What
might be good to know is that many of the cheaper resorts can not be booked
in advance due to them not having a reliable booking system and they are
often closed six months of the year. |
Previous years we have said
that apart from Christmas and
New year it is
possible to find
a bungalow anytime, if you are
not too
fussy, and willing to
rent a
motor
bike and travel
around the
various resorts.
During the
past couple of
seasons
we were
proved
wrong. For
most part
of the
high season
(November–
April) it was very
hard to find
bungalows. During
Christmas
and New Year we
even had |

people sleeping in
our classrooms when there was no accommodation
to be found for love or money.
Another way to book a bungalow is to is to accept the offers of one of the
many agents on the boats to Koh Lanta who offer “fantastic bungalows at dirt
cheap prices”. Far too often this ends up with the guests being transported
long distances on the back of pick up trucks just to find that the bungalow
was not quite what was promised or that the last cheap one had just been let
but there where others much more expensive available. Often the guests have
been promised free taxi ride to and from the village, this usually means it
is OK to go when the resort car is going anyway if there is space. A taxi
from the village to the resorts further down the island can cost you up to
600 bath and which can seem like a bit of false economy if you have just
saved a couple of hundred bath on the bungalow! Needless to say not all
resorts do this sort of thing and of course you can be lucky and find your
dream place this way but be aware of the long uncomfortable journeys on the
back of pick up trucks and rent a motorbike for transport.
If you plan to dive we recommend that you stay on Klong Dau, Long Beach,
Prae Ae or at the furthest Klong Nin as all dive boats start from Saladan at
the far north of the island. Even if we (and all other dive centers) do
drive back and forth from the resorts there are better things to do while on
holiday than ride along bumpy, dusty roads. |

As the years have passed we have had more and more requests from our guests
to assist with accommodation and we have found that as the number of resorts |
have increased so has the
difficulty in choosing. We are

Even though we are happy to help you book we are not a “travel agency” and
at the end of the day the choice it is always up to you where you stay. We
regard the resorts we list as good value for money and we are in contact
with management in the unlikely event of a problem. Still, Thailand is
Thailand and we hope that tourism will not change the country too much.
Weather the differences are positive or negative only you can decide. We do
however, think that the wide smiles and genuine kindness by far outweighs
the sometimes slight lack of efficiency and organization! |

Krabi and Phuket |

As most of our guest fly in to either Krabi or Phuket it is quite common to
want to stop over just to catch up on some sleep, to go shopping or
partying. Whatever the reason may be we work together with a few hotels in
Phuket and Krabi in order to be able to provide you with a fully
comprehensive service. Also these hotels can be booked through us just let
us know what you require. And if we can not provide what you need we put you
in touch with reliable agents.

Due to the many request from guest who
want to stop over in Bangkok we have increased our booking service
to include about 100 hotels in this fantastic city, from cheap
standard rooms to world class hotels such as The Oriental.
We have several very good, value for money hotels around the best
shopping areas. |

Transport |
|
We organize and provide transport to and from resorts and hotels to the
airports in Krabi and Phuket. All transports are provided by fully air
conditioned modern minivans. Please note that there are no child seats in
Thai vehicles. |

Noble House |
|
Our “all time favorite” !! Noble House is run and owned by Sue & Alex. The resort is situated just south of Saladan, close to the dive center.

despite having grown during the
last
few years, a
small, cosy and friendly
resort. The standard is high and the
restaurant one
of the best on Koh
Lanta (try Sue’s green curry!) The
lovely ladies Ari and
Blah who serve
in the restaurant will find them selves
running a bit extra
nowadays as the
restaurant guests can now also have
their food served on
the beach! The |

location of Noble
House is perfect right on the beach on the best
stretch of Klong Dao. Between the bungalows at the front and the restaurant
there is a good sized pool |
(2,4 m at the deep end). Spacious
terraces on
each bungalow and
from most of the
bungalows you
can see the sea.
There are now 23
bungalows all
with
their own terrace and all with
hot
water. Out of the 23
bungalows,
19
are air conditioned (4 are fan
bungalows) and 13 of them have a
fridge. All bungalows are spacious,
clean and comfortable. There are |

two extra
special VIP bungalows and as if it was not enough being right next to the
beach one can nearly jump from the terrace to the pool. (well, nearly!)
To Noble House you come as a guest and leave as a friend of the family. Alex
and Sue are around at all times and there is always time for a friendly
chat. At five in the afternoon the restaurant closes for an hour, this is
when staff and guests have their daily volleyball competition on the beach! |

DR Lanta Bay |
DR Lanta has over the past couple of years become one of our favourite
resorts. DR which stands for Damrong, the owner, is a very pleasant resort
built on the best part of Klong Dau beach close to the Noble House. DR´s 37
bungalows are all good sized with aircon, fridge, hot water and private
terraces. The pool is quite large and the restaurant draws people from all
over the island. The comprehensive menu, Thai and International, is sure to
delight guests of all ages and nationalities and the service is fast and
efficient. Added to this is the restaurants location right on the beach
front.

Southern Lanta |
|
Southern, is one of Koh Lanta’s oldest resorts. What has impressed
us during our years on Koh Lanta is the Southern Lanta’s relentless
effort of Khun Suntorn, the owner |
of Southern Lanta to make things
better each year.
Consequently
what we write about
now as very
good will probably be
even better
during the coming
season.
Southern is located right
in the centre of Klong Dau beach
and has
always been at the fore-
front when it comes to standard
and professionalism.
It is no
longer the most luxurious resort |

on the island but certainly a role
model for management. A few years ago we thought the restaurant was OK but
now after having built a beach bar with a |
“seafood corner” Southern has
grabbed a top spots on our own
“restaurant guide”. There are
many different types of bungalows
at Southern ranging from
Superior, Mini suites, De luxe,
connecting family rooms and
family houses. All bungalows
have aircon, hot
water, mini bar
safety deposit and private |

terraces. Some have bath tubs, cable TV and kettles. As a guest at Southen Lanta you can, free of charge,
try scuba diving in the pool with Lanta Diver. |

Lanta Villa |
|
Lanta Villa is one of our oldest favourites on Klong Dau and we have booked
many guests there over the years. One of the oldest resorts on Koh Lanta but |
always in good condition as Pitak
and Chawee spare no effort in
keeping all
the bungalows and
the whole resort spick and span.
During the last few years
most of
the old bungalows have been
replaced by larger and more
comfortable
new ones. If you do
not want sand between your toes
there is a nice pool
just by the |

restaurant. In all the new bungalows there is a TV, a fridge and a
minibar. Lanta Villa is located right by the beach in the centre of
Klong Dau. |
On the beach by
Lanta Villa, Jack has his booking
office and travel agency. Here you
can book fishing, elephant trekking,
kayak paddling, sailing, snorkelling
and of course diving. In a big article
in one of Swedens largest daily
papers (Dagens Nyheter) Jack’s
travel agency was elected “the
best travel agency in the world”, |

now we do not know how many were nominated but he certainly is very
good and honest! If he does not think something is worth the money,
he will tell you! |

Holiday Villa |
|
Holiday Villa was built a few years ago at the southern end of Klong Dau
beach overlooking the bay. The resort is built on a large stretch of ground
and has |
large well maintained lawns, a
great swimming pool with slide
and Jacuzzi, good restaurant and
fantastic bungalows. Holiday
Villa’s standard and price are
a cut
above the rest. All 27
bungalows at Holiday Villa have
private terraces, a bedroom, a
living room and enormous bath-
rooms with bath tub, hairdryers etc.

have satellite TV, telephone, mini bar and safety box.
There are beach front bungalows right next to the beach, garden view
bungalows looking over the garden and swimming pool and also sew view
bungalows which are built on the slope with fantastic views of the bay and
beach. The beach right outside Holday Villa is a bit rocky and not that good
for swimming but walk a few minutes along the beach and you will find the
perfect sandy beach. Also as a guest at Holday Villa you can, free of
charge, do a test dive in the pool with Lanta Diver.

Golden Bay
Golden Bay is also run by a Thai family and is a well
known resort on Koh Lanta. A nice resort with an extra plus for the
restaurant which is beautifully situated in the |
garden just by the beach. Last year
Golden Bay had a facelift and many
new bungalows were built to replace
the old ones, The new bungalows
now have ac, hot water, fridge and
TV. Golden Bay is still a very nice
resort now with a higher standard.

Good Days
Good Days on Long Beach (Phrae Ae) is a friendly, clean nice
and very pleasant family run resort . The resort enjoys quite a lot
of space which gives the whole resort a nice atmosphere. Good Days
have many different types of bungalows to suit all tastes. There are
large family houses as well as cosy fan bungalows and luxury air
conditioned suites. As of last season also Good Days has a pool.
Good Days is located in the centre of Long Beach, this beautiful
long sandy beach, often used by photographers to depict the perfect
Thai beach. Long Beach is quite rocky at the southern end and very
good from the centre to the north from Good Days upwards the beach
is perfect. |

Relax Bay
Relax Bay resort is located on a private secluded beach right at the
end of Long Beach about 10 km from Saladan. You need to be quite
mobile to stay here as there |
are quite a few steps to negotiate in which ever way you want to
go and also to
some of the bungalows.
The 28 bungalows are quite
basic even though several are
air-conditioned. Most of them
are well maintained and the
location of each bungalow
carefully planned to make
the most of the view.

The French restaurant serves
fantastic food and has daily
specialties. Stefan and Pierre,
the owners (French) will
always make sure there is
a good selection of suitable
wines to go with your meal.

Lanta Paradise
Last year Lanta Paradise was given a complete face lift. The old
bungalows were torn down and replaced by new ones. Lanta Paradise
also has a pool.
This family run resort is
always a great place to stay. Khun Prawit and his family are
guaranteed to make you feel comfortable and welcome in every way.
Paradise is located right on the best part of Klong Nin beach. The
restaurant is both cheap and very good and you can sit on the beach
or on a specially designed terrace with a complete beach view. A
very peaceful and relaxing place to stay. Transports from Paradise
are seldom a problem as Khun Prawit organises transport several
times each day.

Why not take a couple of days on the beautiful islands south of Koh
