Thai cooking classes at Time for Lime!
Time for Lime is unlike other cooking schools located right on the beach! Their consept with well designed location, easy listening jazz music & clean western standards,
combined with informative
instructions has also
made Time for Lime a
different experience.
Junie Kovacs who is the
owner and manager of
this business comes
from Norway and has
spent many years of her
life in the US. This fact
that Junie is around at
all times gives this
cooking school a
considerable edge
compared to others
as she knows what is
available in the western
world and can provide
suggestions and useful
tips of what products to
use in order to be able
to cook good Thai at home.

Time for Lime provides
two classes daily, after-
noons & evenings. One
to six day classes can
be started any day. We
have tried and can really

recommend the place.
You talk about food,
prepare and eat,
both lunch and dinner.
Look upon this is as a
dinner party where you
do not come to a set
table. By the time you
leave you will be able
to cook some of your
favorite Thai dishes.

For more information visit: www.timeforlime.net.

Especially during the
peak season it can be
a good idea to make
an early booking.

Even though we are a divecenter you can book through us. Send an e-mail to
maj-britt@lantadiver.com or get in contact with Junie directly through their website.

Shopping
Obviously we think you should spend your time on Lanta diving with us, relaxing and eating good food. But as so much of what one can buy in Thailand is much
cheaper than in most countries
we get many questions
concerning shopping.
Clothes, shoes, cloth, CD’s,
DVD films, watches, computer
programs, art, jewelry, glasses,
electronics...
What should be mentioned is
that all the extremely cheap
things are copies. The Thai
tradition of copying is very old
and until quite recently copyright
was almost unheard of. During
the last couple of years the
authorities have begun to crack
down on some of the copy cats but so far this has not actually affected the shops in the street. Here are a few comments about what you can find on Lanta (mainly Saladan).

Leisure wear T shirts, shorts, sarongs etc you can buy in any of the many “t-shirt shops”. Even if the t-shirts and shorts carry labels such as Lacoste, Nike etc remember that they are all copies! This however, does not necessary mean that the quality is not as good as the original especially t- shirts are often very good quality. They are cheap as well but do not forget to bargain! Most of the t shirt shops on Lanta you will find in Saladan.

Tailors
You do not need to stay more than a day or two to have time to have a suit made up by a tailor. Here there is some real money to be saved. The quality of the cloth is usually very good and well up to the standard of the clothes you pay a small fortune for in most countries. The prices will vary depending on type of material.

On Lanta we now have quite a selection of tailors, we have not had a chance to test them all and we are not in a position to judge which one is the best or most reliable. The customers that we have spoken to have generally been pleased provided that they have agreed material, price, cut and quantities beforehand. In our experience customers have generally had better results by going to shops dedicated solely to tailoring.

Shoes
Basic sandals you can often find in the t-shirt shops. The sandals are copies just like the t-shirts the difference being that the shoe quality is normally useless. Cheap
but hardly worth the money.
Should your feet be larger
than a normal medium size
you might also find it very
difficult to find anything big
enough. Very often you will
also have to add two sizes
to your normal shoe size in
order to find a good fit.

If you want good quality
shoes at good prices it is
a much better idea to stop
over in Bangkok or Phuket.

Go to a “real” shoe shop and buy originals, much cheaper than at home but still very different to find larger sizes.

Watches
Here you can buy your first Rolex. Very similar to the real thing to look at but the quality is nowhere close! If you enjoy showing of you can buy a few and hope that one of them works. We have bought watches that worked for two days and others that after a couple of years in a drawer is still showing the right time. Pot luck in other words. This type of watches you buy from street vendors.

CD-records
Thailand is definitely not the record companies favorite country. The pirate copying is extensive and you can buy the CD’s everywhere. The quality varies and if you find something you want ask to listen to the last two tracks as this is normally where the problems start. The CD’s cost a fraction of the original and even Lanta prices are cheap. Not normally a lot of room for bargaining on CD’s but on the other hand the prices are usually low to start of with.

DVD-films
The pirate copiers new best seller. All the latest box office hits can be bought on the street for about 100 bht . For one reason or another extra cheap on Koh Lanta. If is however, a good idea to fins somewhere where you can watch a couple of minutes of the films as it is quite common that the quality is not up to scratch. Some of the films are filmed with a video camera in a cinema and otheres do not even resemble the real thing, or they are all in Chinese. But there are many good copies and then it is cheap!

Glasses and sun glasses
There is now a real optician in Saladan. As it is completely new we do not yet know if it is good or not but it is part of a Thailands largest chain of opticians. And Thai
opticians are as a rule very
good. Do not expect a huge
selection of exclusive frames
and as far as the actual
glass is concerned it might
not be the latest technology.
But you can definitely find
good, useful every day
glasses. The optician is, just
like at home, the best
person to buy sun glasses
from. A bit more expensive
but remember that many of the sunglasses you buy on the street do not have anything that resembles UV protection. The sun in Thailand is very strong and as far as glasses go it is important to use the real stuff, this is just as important for children.

When it comes to lenses most common brands are ready available.
As for diving masks with correctional lenses these you can buy from us at Lanta Diver. Most of the larger brands have masks with correctional lenses, and we try to keep a good selection in stock.
