v PADI

Do you want to go professional? If so this is the course for you. If you want to make diving your profession for a longer or shorter time, maybe as a diving guide or assisting instructors in their daily work the Divemaster course opens the door to an international career
in diving. The prerequisites for the Divemaster course is that you are a Rescue diver or equivalent and before certification you must have a minimum of 60 logged dives.

When we do the divemaster course we stress the academics as we regard this as a very important foundation on which to base your future diving career. We will also let you practice and make sure of mastery of the 18 basic dive skills. When you become more confident you will practise guiding groups, under supervision of certified divemasters and instructors and you will be given the chance to assist our instructors. Before certification you have to pass a series of theoretical and practical tests. The Divemaster course is a lot of hard work and requires a real interest and dedication but we promise you when you have completed this course you will emerge a much more confident diver in and out of the water. A common misconception regarding the Divemaster course is that it is a cheap way to do a lot of diving and we get many requests from people who think they can work of the divemaster course through working as guiding Divemaster trainees (DMT’S). We do not do this at all, only certified and experienced Divemasters are used to guide our guests at Lanta Diver and there is not an insurance in the world which will cover a DMT in the role of a certified divemaster!

Theoretically a divemaster course can be completed in a relative short period of time. However, at Lanta Diver we like to do things thoroughly so make sure you have at least one month. The reason for us not setting an exact time is that we want you to be able to make use of the possibilities we provide our DMT’s with. We want you to master all skills, both theoretical and the practical and we want you to have plenty of time to practise any uncertain areas. Some trainees need more time following certified DM’s and some need to practice their skills while some need more time on physics and physiology.
The details for each group of DMT’s is individually worked out depending on the trainees level of experience. What we do expect from you as a trainee before you enrol in the course is that you have done a fair bit of diving and feel confident in the water. We start our divemaster courses in November and February.
