Long Beach
The real name of this beach is Phra Ae beach but for some reason or another it is commonly known as Long beach. The beach is located just south of Klong Dao and is as long, but here, once you enter the water you will find that the bottom slopes much faster and gets deep very fast. The further south along the beach you go, the more small rocks and stones you will find. Long beach has changed its character somewhat during the past few years. A few years ago the resorts along Long beach were basic and very cheap, but these days there are several high standard resorts and this provides the beach with a bit of character. You can have a 40 baht curry at one of the small restaurants or walk in to the place next door and have a New Zealand Sirloin steak for 1000 baht. Without actually having reliable statistics to go by, we still have the feeling that Long beach attracts younger and single visitors, so if you are looking for a party this is the beach where you are most likely to find it. Lanta Diver also has a booking office here and you can try sailing our Catamaran which we keep on the beach by the office on the northern part of the beach.
Some of the resorts on Long beach did occasionally have a problem with loud music from some of the bars, but this has improved over the last few years. However, if you are sensitive to loud music in the evenings (everything closes at 1 am) it might be an idea to make sure your bungalow is not located next to one of the popular bars. Still, remember what we said, all is relative and Koh Lanta is still very much a calm and peaceful island.
