PADI Instructor Development Course Structure
1. E-Learning Presentations either Online or live (over 2 days)
Before the 2 day prep course, candidates need to have completed either the E-Learning portion of the IDC online
OR
Participate in these online presentations, presented live by the PADI Course Director or Staff Instructors over 2 earlier days. This will be arranged before the EFR Instructor and IDC 2 day prep courses.

2. Emergency First Response Instructor Course - 1 Day
Before you can be certified as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, you need to have first completed the EFR Instructor course. The EFR Instructor course only takes one day to complete. IDC candidates who still need to complete this requirement, may join the EFR Instructor course which starts 2 days before the IDC 2 day prep course.
3. IDC 2 Day Prep Course - Free! - 2 Days
With the E-Learning segment of your IDC completed, we begin with the IDC Prep Course. This program has the following main goals:
> Ensure that all IDC candidates have all the necessary PADI
materials and dive equipment required.
> We do 2 confined water skill sessions to practice the 20 skills
from the PADI Divemaster course so you go into the IDC sharp!
> We do dive theory workshops/presentations on topics including
Physics, Physiology, Equipment, Decompression theory and Skills &
Environment. Afterwards we give candidates practice exams.
4. NEW 2010 Curriculum PADI Instructor Development Course - 7 Days
After the IDC on-line presentations are completed using either the preferred E-Learning option or the 2 day live presentations option, the actual IDC program is only 7 days. Out of these 7 days, 5 days involves in-water teaching sessions.
2 Day IDC Prep: Water skills workshops & Dive theory reviews
Day 1: Presentations in the morning followed by workshops in the afternoon.
Day 2 & 3: Teaching skills in the pool and afternoon candidate presentations.
Day 4: DAY OFF
Day 5: Teaching Skills in the ocean. Afternoon candidate presentations.
Day 6: Teaching Skills in the ocean. Presentations & Exams.
Day 7: DSD and skills workshop iin the pool. Exams and study tools.
Day 8: FREE Nitrox & Distinctive Shark Awareness Instructor course!
Additional teaching workshops during the IDC include:
> Students with mask clearing problems
> Preparing CESA lines or surface support stations
> Teaching the Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent safely
> Lift Bag use and knot tying
> Special Risk Management workshop and Video of dive accidents
These workshops are NOT standard IDC practice. They are additional workshops added into the IDC by PADI Course Director Brendon Sing. These workshops will give you more experience on teaching skills safely and efficiently

IDC SCHEDULES
MASTER SCUBA DIVER TRAINER COURSES
Each schedule below is followed by the optional PADI Master Scuba Dive Trainer Course (MSDT). Candidates choose 5 PADI Specialty courses that they would like to teach. Then we conduct programs on how to organize and teach these courses for the instructor candidates. The MSDT is 3-4 days that includes several dives depending on the specialties chosen. See IDC packages (above) that include the MSDT program.
IDC STAFF INSTRUCTOR COURSES
IDC Staff Instructor course are conducted in conjunction with every IDC program. The IDC Staff Instructor course starts the same time as the IDC prep Program until the end of the IDC Curriculum.
